Viscous flow and glass transition in amorphous oxide materials

Michael I. Ojovan, University of Sheffield

An overview is given on amorphous oxide materials viscosity and glass-transition phenomena. Compositions and structural states are briefly analysed accounting for complexity and diversity of amorphous oxides. Viscosity-temperature relationships in amorphous oxides are of practical importance. These are examined along with data on fragility. A compendium of viscosity models is given and recent data [1] are outlined on thermodynamics of viscous flow.

Glass-liquid transition phenomena and most popular glass transition models are overviewed. Configuron model of glass transition [2] and symmetry breaking at glass-liquid transitions are also examined.
